1031 Exchange Options hired Martin Gates as managing director and Tom Velken as Marin County replacement-property specialist. Gates was an independent banking and investment consultant, and Velken co-owned Lafayette, Calif.­based Viking Real Estate Group, a mortgage broker firm.

Susan Spencer Cantwell joined Continuum Lakewood Development Co. as director of property management and operations. She will oversee Belmar, a 104-acre mixed-use development in Lakewood, Colo. Cantwell was general manager of Denver Pavilions, a lifestyle center in downtown Denver.

Allied Security promoted Anna C. Northcutt to vice president and general manager. In the new post she will oversee security at 42 malls operated by General Growth Properties. Northcutt was vice president of operations for the General Growth account. Before joining King of Prussia, Pa.­based Allied, she was regional security manager for The Macerich Co., Santa Monica, Calif.

Ancar S.A., Brazil’s pioneering shopping center development firm, underwent some leadership changes. Sergio Andrade de Carvalho, who was president of Ancar Empreendimentos, Ancar’s shopping center ownership unit, passed that presidency to his son Marcos. Marcos was president of Ancar Gestão, the unit that manages shopping centers in Brazil. Sergio remains chairman of Ancar’s board, which oversees both units. Meanwhile, Marcos’ brother, Marcelo, takes over as president of Ancar Gestão.

Barry A. Chase joined real estate investment and development firm CT Realty Corp., Newport Beach, Calif., as executive vice president of acquisitions. Chase was president of Koll Development Co.’s Western division, where he managed commercial real estate development projects.

Ryan Cos., a Minneapolis-based development firm, recruited Todd Davis as project manager at its Chicago office. Davis was a project engineer at Paul H. Schwendener, a Chicago-based general contracting firm.

Grubb & Ellis Co., Northbrook, Ill., recruited Steven S. Sessions as vice president of management services at its Denver office. Sessions was executive vice president of the Etkin Johnson Group, a Denver-based private commercial property investment and management company.

James Rosenfield joins Cushman & Wakefield as senior managing director and head of national retail practice, while Daniel Bercu comes aboard as the New York City­based firm’s director of retail services on the West Coast. Both men come from J.S. Rosenfield & Co., a Santa Monica, Calif.­based retail development and management firm. Rosenfield remains president of J.S. Rosenfield, and Bercu is still a partner there. At Cushman & Wakefield Rosenfield replaces David Gialanella, who joins Phoenix-based Business Integration Group as chief marketing officer. Business Integration is an Internet-based property management company partly owned by Cushman & Wakefield.
