TERRORISM TO BE TOPIC AT ICSC SHOPPING CENTER SECURITY CONFERENCE

This year’s Shopping Center Security Conference, “The Global Agenda,” to be held March 16-18 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, will again devote considerable time to terrorism.

“There are certain worldwide circumstances that have changed security everywhere,” said conference co-chairman Sean Milano, a partner at Boston law firm Morrison, Mahoney & Miller. “[Landlords] can’t stick their heads in the sand and pretend these things aren’t going on.”

Speakers will include Arik Arad, head of security for the Shopping Center Association in Israel and Joseph E. Troiani, division director of the Will County (Ill.) Health Department. Troiani will talk about the culture of terrorism. “It’s providing a good, fundamental knowledge of what drives terrorism, the folds that perpetrate terrorism and some of the tactics of terrorists,” said Ken Hamilton, vice president of business development at Bannockburn, Ill.-based security firm IPC International Corp. and a member of ICSC’s Security Conference Committee. Non-terrorist topics will also be covered at the conference. These will include “Forty Ways to Make Our Buildings Safer,” “Managing Aggressive Behavior (Confronting Teens)” and “Workplace Violence: Basic Principles of Assessment and Management.” For full details, please visit ICSC’s Web site at www.icsc.org.
