ICSC APPOINTS NEW GENERAL COUNSEL

Melina Spadone

Edward J. Sack

Melina Spadone has been appointed ICSC’s general counsel. Spadone replaces Edward J. “Ned” Sack, who retired in January after 22 years with the organization.

John T. Riordan, ICSC’s vice chairman, noted Sack’s contribution to ICSC and the industry.

“As our first real government relations officer in addition to being in-house counsel, Ned became, among other things, the expert on disputes related to public access to private property,” he said, describing Sack as “a model of civility.” Sack was honored in January at ICSC’s board of trustees meeting.

Spadone, who joined ICSC last year as deputy general counsel, will be responsible for the association’s day-to-day legal affairs as well as for establishing ICSC policies on legislative issues affecting the shopping center industry.

A graduate of Fordham University School of Law in New York City, Spadone also holds an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. Before joining ICSC, Spadone worked for Nextset Software, Palo Alto, Calif.; Viacom International, New York City; and Hughes, Hubbard & Reed, a New York City-based law firm.

Spadone is fluent in French and Italian and conversant in Hebrew.

“Melina brings a wealth of experience to ICSC, and we are pleased that she has joined our association,” said Michael P. Kercheval, ICSC’s president and CEO. “Her professional background coupled with her language skills will be a great asset to ICSC and its members throughout the world.”
