CRONKITE TO SPEAK AT SPRING CONVENTION

Former CBS News anchorman and veteran broadcast journalist Walter Cronkite will preside over a special session at the ICSC Spring Convention, Leasing Mall and Trade Exposition in Las Vegas from May 20-23.

A 75-minute “Conversation with Walter Cronkite” will be held Tuesday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at the Las Vegas Hilton. Under a new convention format this year, all sessions are running concurrently with the Leasing Mall, which opens Monday morning at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

During his more than 60 years in journalism, Cronkite, 84, has covered virtually every major news event. He spent 48 years with CBS News, including 19 as anchorman of the CBS Evening News.

Other speakers confirmed for the annual convention are Crate & Barrel founder and CEO Gordon Segal, author and TV talk show host Bill O’Reilly and Emmy award-winning business reporter Mike Jensen.

Known for his innovative merchandising skills, Segal founded the first Crate & Barrel home furnishings store in Chicago in 1962 at the age of 23. Today he presides over a 94-store chain with annual sales of more than $700 million.

O’Reilly is the host of “The O’Reilly Factor” on the Fox News Channel and author of a best-selling book of the same name. Jensen is a former chief financial correspondent for NBC News and a former business reporter for The New York Times.

Other popular sessions back this year include a panel on public/private partnerships featuring large-city mayors. Also new this year: ICSC has launched a section on its Web site (www.icsc.org) containing information for Leasing Mall and Trade Expo exhibitors. Included are exposition floor plans, up-to-date exhibitors lists, design criteria for both Leasing Mall and Trade Expo, a set of rules, exhibitor service kits and sample booth designs.
