Forest City, Cadillac Fairview open Mall at Stonecrest today

Forest City Enterprises, Cleveland, and Cadillac Fairview, Toronto, this morning opened the 1.3 million-square-foot Mall at Stonecrest in Lithonia, Ga., about 30 miles southeast of Atlanta. The $131 million two-level hybrid mall is anchored by Rich’s, Sears, J.C. Penney, Parisian and Dillard’s, and features a 60,000-square-foot landscaped outdoor plaza featuring restaurants and cafes and a 16-screen MegaStar Cinema.

The mall is part of a 2 million-square-foot mixed-use development that also includes big-box retailers, office space and hotels. The center features 120 in-line retailers, including Aveda, Brookstone, Ann Taylor Loft, Discovery Store and Charlotte Russe. The crescent-shaped Mall at Stonecrest is divided into several themed zones, including "The Streets," which serves as a transition zone between the outdoor plaza and the main interior of the regional mall, and "The Gallery," comprising the central portion of the mall, featuring a high, sloped roof, etched glass panel handrails, stone flooring and clerestory windows.

The center is the first of two major projects opening near Atlanta in the next two weeks; Arlington, Va.-based Mills Corp. opens its Discovery Mills value megamall outside Atlanta on Nov. 2.

The Mall at Stonecrest is also the first of two Forest City projects opening this week; the company developed the Mall at Robinson, Pittsburgh, which opens this weekend.

The Mall at Stonecrest is Cadillac Fairview’s fifth project in Georgia. It also has full or partial stakes in the 1.2 million-square-foot Gwinnett Place, Duluth; the 632,000-square-foot North Dekalb Mall, Decatur; the 735,000-square-foot Shannon Mall, Union City; and the 1.3 million-square-foot Town Center at Cobb, Kennesaw.
