U.S. chain store sales grew 0.7 percent in April, ICSC index says
U.S. chain store sales increased 0.7 percent in April according to ICSC’s index. Because of a shift in the Easter holiday compared to last year, overall April performance was not as strong as it may appear and the two-month March-April period performance remained sluggish with a run-rate of negative 1.4 percent (the average of the two monthly growth rates.) Looking ahead to May, ICSC anticipates that the sales will be flat to down about 1 percent from the May 2008 as the industry faces a tough comparison from tax-rebate-inflated sales growth.Compiled by the staff of Shopping Centers Today. © May 07, 2009 International Council of Shopping Centers.
