RECon 2014 gets tech-savvy

Building on the success of the #iTechLounge at RECon 2014, ICSC joined with the Coca-Cola Co. to create the ICSC Coca-Cola Happiness Lounge, where RECon attendees can relax, sip a cold beverage and brush up on the latest tech tools and social-media trends.
There is plenty of seating, complimentary Wi-Fi and charging for mobile devices at the lounge, which is located at 19th Avenue and K Street in the Central Hall. On the mind-expansion menu are #ICSCTechTalk events (live interviews with industry leaders), 20-minute #CrashCourse sessions on new technologies, and 20-minute #HappinessBreak workshops on health and wellness, with Coca-Cola as host.
The lineup goes beyond the basics of social media, hash tags and mobile devices that were the focus of the booth’s predecessors at RECons past, explains Sarah Malcolm, ICSC’s director of new media. The ICSC Coca-Cola Happiness Lounge will teach methods of integrating digital, mobile and social media into unified online marketing strategies. “It’s not just about social media; it’s more a holistic view of all media together,” she said.
In addition to the aforementioned educational sessions, the lounge is presenting the #REConTweetup at 3 p.m. on Monday, where visitors can put a face with a handle, while HootSuite Media presents the latest advancements in its uberVU social analytics.
Then, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the lounge will present the #MobileMeetup, with developers of commercial real estate mobile apps, highlighted by PayPal’s perspective on Beacon-Limitless Technology.
And with so much floor space to cover at RECon, attendees may want to download the #MyStepsCount app — and compete for prizes that will go to the meeting goers who log the most miles walked during the show. “With health and wellness being such a huge part of Coca-Cola, we created a pedometer app so people can compete and win prizes,” Malcolm said.
Participants can stop by the ICSC Coca-Cola Happiness Lounge for a #MyStepsCount T-shirt and get their picture taken, then track their competitive progress on a leader board that will display up-to-the-minute results. The prizes include Nike gift cards, a Coca-Cola backpack and a Coca-Cola mountain bike. The top prize will be American Airlines tickets usable for flights to anywhere within the continental U.S.
