Job Description

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants is adding a Chief Development Officer for our company.  The CDO will lead and direct the Development team in achieving the company’s high-growth objectives.  A key member of the Leadership team, the CDO serves as the point person on all development- related matters.  Organizational leadership is critical in this role.  S/he will lead and develop the Real Estate, Licensing, Construction, Design and Facilities teams to ensure we are delivering new restaurant opening performance against specific financial and calendar targets. S/he will implement systems and processes to create a highly effective development function. 

Responsibilities:

• Establish, lead, and direct all aspects of Cooper’s Hawk development function
• Ensure proper talent is in place within the department to support the company’s growth, to include high-performers in pipeline planning, site selection and real estate management, architecture and design, permitting, licensing, construction management, capital expenditure and facilities and maintenance
• Partner with the Leadership Team to build consensus and alignment on market-specific development goals and objectives
• Develop and implement department systems and processes in areas of Real Estate, Construction and Design to ensure a ready pipeline of sites suitable for development as well as the successful execution of restaurant design and build, on-time and within budget
• Ensure execution of facilities maintenance program to ensure our restaurants are always functioning at a high level
• In coordination with Finance, develop pro-forma model for ROI and profitability metrics
• Provide thought leadership and innovation in the evolution of unit design prototypes that enhance overall positioning and financial viability
• Ensure execution of licensing and permitting process and compliance with local zoning and development requirements
• Define and implement a long-term sustainability strategy that includes efficient energy, water and materials utilization for each concept
• Determine the optimal utilization of both internal and external resources to effectively manage capital

Requirements:

• Must represent Cooper’s Hawk Values
• Outstanding team leadership skills with a proven record of successfully leading and managing an organization through a period of extensive unit company expansion
• Familiarity and comfort in finding the balance between the science of sophisticated analytical tools with the art of judgment and the ability to effectively integrate field operating perspectives
• At least 10 years of broad development leading Real Estate, Construction, Architecture and Design and Facilities and Maintenance team for a high-growth, “Best in Class” multi-unit, multi-state restaurant, retail, or hospitality chain
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Architecture or Engineering; MBA preferred
• Proven leadership with the ability to identify, lead and motivate a team, and develop individual talent within the group
• Superior analytical and strategic skills with a high capacity for managing complexity
• A reputation of creativity and innovation in both process leadership as well as concept design
• Experience working with multiple revenue stream businesses; larger footprint full-service restaurant and retail is beneficial
• Personal characteristics that include: integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, superior verbal and written communication, and strong interpersonal skills
• Strong financial acumen, an understanding of P&L and metrics associated with capital allocation; experience in managing a budget
• Experience with creating and delivering effective Board of Director presentations
• Experience in site development, civil engineering and ground up development
• Ability to travel extensively on an “as needed” basis
