The Link Management
The Link Community Sports Academy


​The Link established the sports academy with the aim of fostering a sense of teamwork, community, health and social inclusion throughout each community that a Link shopping center is located in. The sports academy provided free sports training to more than 1,500 participants, including those with disabilities. All 12 of The Link’s shopping centres participated, and tenants provided sports equipment.

SM City Cagayan de Oro
Operation Sendong


​SM Prime Holding’s “Operation Sendong” campaign was launched in response to a devastating tropical typhoon that hit the Philippines in December 2011 and left over 1,000 dead and many without homes. SM Prime Holdings, which owns a mall in one of the hardest hit areas, Cagayan de Oro, donated $65,000 to the city government to assist in relief efforts. In addition to their donation, the company held special events, performances and exhibits in their mall, SM City Cagayan de Oro, to help raise awareness and additional funds. The company also helped rebuild over 200 homes that were lost or damaged in the storm, and passed out 20,000 food packs with fresh water and meals to victims.

​Upon the 25th anniversary of SM Prime Holdings’ SM North Edsa Mall, the mall owners wanted to generate a campaign that would give back to the local community. Together in partnership with Gawad Kalinga, the two companies teamed up to establish the SM City GK Village aimed to build 25 homes for 25 poverty stricken families. Volunteers and employees of the SM North Edsa Mall mobilized to create a community that would change the quality of life for the 25 families who received the new homes while boosting the demographics of the surrounding area.

Mr. Hans T. Sy, president, SM Holdings, conducted a ceremony where each family received their new home. In response to the overwhelming sense of fulfillment felt by Mr. Hans, he decided to extend his initial campaign and create an entire village aimed to benefit over 100 families. This campaign has not only impacted the families who have received homes, it has also allowed the entire community to flourish. The once slum lands have been converted into a successful, fully functioning community.
