Founded in August 1993 the German Council of Shopping Centers e.V. (GCSC) represents the shopping center and retail scene in Germany. Members are shopping center developers, investors, architects, building constructors, management companies, agencies, suppliers as well as retailers. Among the activities are an annual retail congress, a study program on development and center management, work group and the members' magazine German Council Report.
Within Europe one of the aims is to work closely together with ICSC-Europe in order to exchange ideas, share and solve problems together. Within Germany the building up of contacts, the exchange of new ideas and the information on new and refurbished shopping center projects is vital. New opening hours, a recession hitting the German retailers badly, and the development of large center projects versus the redevelopment of downtowns especially in the new Eastern parts of Germany are topics to be discussed within the Council as well as with governments, retail associations and public representatives.
